Head of the Mitsumasa School of Tsugaru Shamisen / Second-generation iemoto
Mitsumasa Miyama is a Tsugaru shamisen performer known for his powerful yet delicate sound, earning recognition on stages, events, and media both in Japan and abroad. His work spans television and radio appearances on NHK, contributions to film, anime, and commercial music, and collaborations with artists across a wide range of genres. He has also been invited to international music festivals, premiering works by composers from around the world.
As the second-generation head of the Mitsumasa School of Tsugaru Shamisen, he is dedicated to preserving tradition while fostering the next generation of performers. His activities include ensemble performances with Japanese and Western instruments, studio recording for anime, games, films, and commercial soundtracks, and participation as a member of the Japan Traditional Cultures Foundation¡Çs ¡ÈNihon Ongaku Shudan.¡É
Miyama is also active as an educator, serving as a certified instructor for the Japan Folk Song Association and providing workshops and outreach programs for schools and youth. Through performance, recording, and teaching, he continues to expand the possibilities of the Tsugaru shamisen on the global stage.
